For those living in Maryland--it is shorter to come by way of Virginia.

  1. I-66 West to I-81 South
  2. At the second exit (which comes up really fast), take Route 55 west.
  3. You will go through Wardensville, then into West Virginia.
  4. At Baker (barely a dot on the map), follow the signs for Route 55 to Moorefield by turning right onto a new divided highway. This runs about 14 miles and ends at Moorefield. Moorefield and Petersburg are your best bets for food and gas.
  5. Seneca Rocks is a three way stop. Harpers General Store and a small motel is on the corner. Turn right with Route 55 and Route 33.
  6. Continue up the mountain and down about 12 miles to Harper. There is a very soft right turn onto Route 32.
  7. Go about 9 miles, just past Canaan Valley State Park on your left and a small strip shopping center on your right.
  8. Turn right at Timberline Road. Timberline Realty is on the corner.
  9. After about 2 miles you will see a sign for Winterset, continue for about three tenths of a mile to a stop sign and turn right.
  10. Third house on the right, at the corner, is the unquiet house: #26 Yoakum Run, Cornerstone Cottage (Cabin ?).
  11. After crossing over the intersection, the third house on the left is #36 Silver Fox, the quiet house.
  12. If you go too far up this road, you end up at the ski lodge.

> The All-Maryland route:

  1. Up 270 to Frederick,
  2. I-70 to Hancock,
  3. I-68 all the way across the panhandle
  4. to Rt. 219
  5. turn left to WV state route 32 in Thomas, WV
  6. Go about 9 miles, just past Canaan Valley State Park on your left and a small strip shopping center on your right.
  7. Turn right at Timberline Road. Timberline Realty is on the corner.
  8. After about 2 miles you will see a sign for Winterset, continue for about three tenths of a mile to a stop sign and turn right.

> Coming by way of Frederick
340 west past Harpers Ferry and Charles Town and picking up I-66. (Follow the previous directions from there.)

And if you do come from Oakland down 219, don't forget that you need to pick up route 32 south at Thomas.
Don't follow route 219 over the bridge.

  • Davis is two miles beyond Thomas.
  • Canaan entrance is about 10 miles from Davis on the left just past Big John's Restaurant on your left.
