Our Mission and Vision
The MISSION of Fortissima is to:
- strive toward musical excellence
- project a message of feminism, social justice and peace
- broaden our repertoire and increase our musical skills
- enjoy making music together
Founded in 1978 as the DC Area Feminist Chorus, Fortissima is committed to activism and advocacy through music. Members recognize that improving as musicians and acting as trustees of the chorus are necessary to reach these goals. We are both voices raised in song and voices carrying our mission forward.
The VISION of the chorus is:
- Fortissima, a non-audition chorus performing in an SSAA framework, facilitates understanding, acceptance, and cooperation among people of diverse lifestyles, and all genders, through the medium of music.
- Fortissima uses feminist principles and consensus decision making, and supports its members as they work toward musical excellence and sustain a vital non-profit organization.
